Black Girl Dangerous: Why I’m Not Going To Pride

Black Girl Dangerous: Why I’m Not Going To Pride

Very interesting article:

“…I know what some of y’all are going to say. “It’s a parade! It’s fun! I like it! Why do you hate everything?” To you, I say, Please stop hearing only what you want to hear. Thanks.

I don’t hate parades. And I find glitter to be all kinds of wonderful. And, yeah, wear those hot pants, guuuurl! AND ALSO, I have a brain and a sense of justice and a heart that connects to the suffering of other human beings. K?

I just wish some of this “pride” energy (and a LOT of this Pride money) was being spent demanding justice for Brandi Martell. And Cece McDonald…”

  1. I get what you are saying, yeah the intense energy, time, & money that goes into this parade could be used for a more concrete product at the end of the day like a unique fundraiser or rally for gay rights but I think an event like a Pride parade do serve as great symbols of equality. When you see Mormons of all people hugging people participating and even walking down themselves with I <3 LGBT signs, a 6ft male in full drag without a care in the world strutting his stuff and an awkward Straight kid having a good time cheering them on all in one event, it seems to me like a great way to remind the world that it's progressing.
